MANILA - China has donated P5 million to the Armed Forces of the Philippines to help ongoing operations against extremists in Marawi City, a military spokesman said Thursday.

Military Public Affairs Office chief Col. Edgard Arevalo said Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua personally handed the check to the Armed Forces chief of staff earlier this week.

He said the Chinese envoy also promised another P15 million donation before the end of the year.

"Bukod pa rito ang pangako nila na magbibigay ng mga rifles, kasama na rito ang sniper rifles. Pinarating din ng ambahador ng Tsina na nagmumungkahi sila ng isang joint training between their unit and our Special Forces hinggil sa counter-terrorism," he said.

China also donated P15 million to support relief operations and rehabilitation efforts in the besieged southern city of Marawi last June.
